Peter takes a grand look at the Gospel rooted in the past, its application in the present, and its hope for the future.  

Peter points believers back to the completed work of Christ and forward to that which is to come as a motive for christian living in the present.  

Peter continues to encourage the church by reminding believers of the hope they have in Christ Jesus for the future.  The result of their faith will be the salvation of their souls  - and praise and honor and glory.   

Peter encourages the churches to whom he writes by pointing them to that great inheritance that awaits those who are Christ's - an inheritance that will not perish, spoil, or fade.

Peter packs a punch in his introduction to this letter of hope.  It's an introduction in which he speaks much of God, His chosen people, and the relationship between the two.  It's an introduction of hope to a great letter of hope.  

Rev. Allen Smith preaches about the pursuing love of the Lord Jesus from the familiar story of Zacchaeus from Luke 19:1-11.  

To bear fruit in the christian life one must be connected to the vine.  A christian must learn to trust in the Lord for his provision in order to give of himself or herself as he is called.  

Jesus calls His followers to a radical kind of love rooted in His radical love of us.
