Believers in the Lord Jesus are called to have hearts ready to forgive having hearts that have been made able to forgive.  Our forgiveness of others flows from our understanding of God's forgiveness of us.  

Jesus has reconciled us by taking our sin upon himself and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.  

 In Psalm 51 David cries out to the Lord for forgiveness.  In Psalm 32, he rejoices in that forgiveness.  

James, in writing to Jewish Christians scattered abroad, teaches that those things we often chase in our flesh hoping to find fulfillment, don't end there but end in emptiness.  We too often pursue what our flesh wants, but God, in His grace, and by His grace, gives us what we need.

To live in light of the gospel we must understand the gospel first.  Jesus brought peace by the blood of His cross and we live in light of that peace. 

Our twofold aim in life is given to us in the Scripture - Christians are called to be God-glorifiers and people-pleasers.  Paul says to this end, "imitate me, even as he imitates Christ."

In this sermon entitled "Hope for the Hut" one finds the Gospel according to Amos.

The Lord announces judgment upon the "sinners" among His own people.  The scope of the Lord's judgment is far and wide but He will save His remnant.  This sermon is a reminder that one's only hope of salvation is the provision offered by the Lord.  

Israel saw themselves as a basket of ripe fruit - a beautiful picture of wealth, health, and prosperity.  But when God looked at them, He did not see a basket of ripe fruit but a people who were ripe for judgment.  And in the midst of the land was a famine of the hearing of the Word; people were thirsty but would not hear.  If they would only turn to the Word of the Lord - for after all, He says, "Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again."
