Jesus foretells three things in this passage for the Jews: the destruction of the temple, wars and persecutions, and the fall of Jerusalem.  What does this have to do with us?

Once again, the Jewish leadership attempt to put Jesus in jeopardy, but He reveals that they are the ones in jeopardy for rejecting the cornerstone. 

Jesus prepares his followers not for a sprint, but for a long distance run!

After Jesus prepares his disciples for what will take place in Jerusalem, they do not understand, the couldn’t see.  In the very next passage, a blind man cries out, “Have mercy on me, Son of David.”  This blind man sees!  He sees who Jesus is.  

With the precision of a surgeon’s scalpel, Jesus once again reveals our hearts - and at the same time we receive the salve of the gospel.  

This familiar parable convicts our hearts at every turn - but also encourages us with the deep mercy of God. 

In responding to the Pharisees’ question concerning when the Kingdom of God will come, Jesus teaches them and his disciples that nature of the kingdom of God and its ultimacy.  

When it’s all said and done, all the riches of this world go back in the box, or in the garage, or in the dumpster, and they mean nothing as one stands before the Lord

The coming of the Kingdom exposes our loyalties and what we believe is ultimate.  God doesn’t judge on a curve - there are no curves, there is no inflation - but in the gospel, there is substitution, the Lord Jesus, His righteousness, for us.  

We take a look at the difficult parable that is often called, “The Parable of the Dishonest Manager.”  While the parable may be difficult, the application of it may even be more so - not in understanding it but in its conviction of our hearts.
