Even through this morbid affair with King Herod and John the Baptist, Mark communicates to us the wonder of the gospel and the importance of the preaching of repentance

Jesus, the One who knows who will believe and who won't, still marvels at unbelief.

Through two desperate individuals, Jairus, a synagogue official, and the bleeding woman, an outcast, Jesus shows that He is worthy of our faith and trust.

Jesus is Lord and King over what is seen and what is unseen.

In the calming of the sea, Jesus, as the Son of God, demonstrates His power of all creation.  The disciples feared the storm until they realized they weren't at the mercy of the storm, but a the mercy of the One who was in their boat - God himself.

Jesus Christ has been made manifest - the True Light has come into the world.  We are called to make Him manifest - a call to be liberal with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

From the Parable of the Sower, Jesus teaches us about the nature of the kingdom and how it advances.

Jesus not only brought a kingdom with His first coming, but He divided and conquered one as well - He conquered the kingdom of Satan.

Jesus demonstrates His love for us through the gracious calling of "The Twelve."  Based not on their performance or their standing but on His sovereign choice.

Through questions of fasting and sabbath observance, Jesus shows that He is Lord of All - He is the bread and rest we need.
