Tell the Truth (Exodus 20:16)

The danger of lies is that it creates a twisted world of deception. When we lie to ourselves, we never admit our need of Jesus and therefore remain in our sin.  

Love God and Neighbor, Not Rob Them

As with all the commands, the 8th Commandment is a radical call, but God gives radical grace.  

Great is Thy Faithfulness (Exodus 20:14)

God calls his people to sexual purity and fidelity!  Fortunately, when we do what the command prohibits and don't do what it permits, He remains faithful!

No Unjust Killing (Exodus 20:13)

God's Word speaks to the oppresser and to the oppressed; to those in authority and those under it; to those with means and those without.  

Command and Promise (Exodus 20:12)

The 5th Commandment is far-reaching; it speaks to children, to parents, about all those to whom honor is due, it orders many things, and it takes several things for granted.  Exodus 20:12 - The Command, The Promise, The Hope

Rest (Exodus 20:8-11)

Too often we approach the 4th Commandment as if it's a burden rather than a gift from the Lord to His people.  The Lord's Day ought to be a foretaste of glory to come - rejoicing in the rest provided by the Lord Jesus through His work.  

Uphold the Name (Exodus 20:7)

God's name is inextricably tied to, associated with, and descriptive of who He is and what He has done and continues to do.  It should come as no surprise that we are charged to not take His name in vain but uphold it in an appropriate manner.

I Cant Only Imagine (Exodus 20:4-6)

The first two commandments are a hinge upon which the rest swing.  If we get our doctrine of God wrong, what do the rest matter?  God commands us to make no images to bow down and worship - that includes no image of the true God because any image would fall short of His wonder and glory and power!  

No Other God's (Exodus 20:1-3)

The authority behind the giving of the Law, the grace behind he receiving of the Law and the substance behind the fulfilling of the Law all lead to our appreciating, loving and desiring to obey the Law.

Holy, Holy, Holy (Exodus 19)

Exodus 19 sets up and prepares God's people for a proper understanding of the Law.  This chapter puts on display God's holiness, His righteousness, His love for His people, and His chosen Mediator.
