John the Baptist prepares the way of the Lord by calling sinners to repent.  

Jesus was about His Father's work.

Faithful parents, Mary and Joseph, take Jesus to the temple where He is met by Simeon and Anna who have an answer to the question, "Who is this Child?" He is God's salvation and the redemption of Jerusalem.

It is now Zechariah's turn to offer praise to God for His gift - and yes, he praises the Lord for his son, John, but first, He praises God for the One to whom his son will point, the Deliverer, the One who saves His people from their sin.  

God shows His favor to the world through His favor to two women.  

With the conception of John the Baptist, God does more than answer the prayer of an aging priest and his barren wife.
